600 farmers are adherents to TERRE DE LIN. They are based in the Seine Maritime and Eure departments. 

Passionned by flax/linen culture, they are the representatives of the ancient and innovative know -how that make the Upper Normandy the main production area of textile flax on a world scale.

    • " Flax is a demanding culture and everything demanding is gratifying." 

      I had the chance to take over my grandfather’s farm. For 40 years, he had very well maintained his fields. He progressively let me manage the farm providing me technical support whenever needed.

      In spite of this, the first year, I nearly lost all my crop.

      Flax culture is very technical. It is necessary to prepare the soils impeccably. Flax shows us all our mistakes even those of the past years.

      It is necessary to be very technical in all the steps of pulling, retting, and winding. Flax quality really depends on the success of these steps.

    • "I learnt a lot through my father; flax requires patience."

      I have been immersed in flax culture when I was a child by taking part to crop works with my father and my uncle.

      The first year I cultivated flax, I went too fast, I did not take the different types of soils of our fields into account. Since then, I have improved this impatience, I have shared a lot with my father all over the culture process.

      His experience has been very helpful because flax is more difficult to cultivate than any other plant.

      After 7 years of common work with my father, we have succeeded in improving the quality of our flax. Passion and patience are necessary for flax culture.

      Flax is never the same. It grows quickly, it is living. Many parameters have to be taken into account. You had better think twice before doing anything. We share a lot with my cousin who works with me.

      I try to reach perfection but perfection can also bring you to lose everything. Flax always brings you to the limit. Flax includes some risk, some chance and some know-how.

      I like when tourists stop near my fields when I am there. I am proud to speak about this natural and passionating culture. Flax is like your home, it is made of emotions you have deep in yourself.
