Our team

TERRE DE LIN is composed of a team of 240 employees. The cooperative operates both in the culture follow up and in the converting of textile flax/linen. There is a wide variety of profiles : operator, team leader, production manager, agronomic technician, genetics researcher, sales manager.

Textile flax is a very specific activity. New employees have a training internally so as to adapt their abilities to the flax know-how.

  • "I put part of myself into the varieties I create." 

    I am in charge of the creation of new flax varieties. They must meet the farmer needs in terms of yield, and of resistance to deseases.

    Thus, I work on two levers: genetics and agronomy.

  • Flax is a plant used for 30 000 years. It is also very beautiful, it makes it very attractive.

    What I like most about my job is the challenge of creating a variety. It is a work which lasts a decade, and where you should anticipate the needs of users in advance.

  • "I always write Flax and Linen in capital letters."

    My role in TERRE DE LIN is to get the best value from our fibers.

    Therefore, I am in charge of supplying the different preparation workshops as well as of selling the products subsequently obtained from them.

    Through this work of selection, I must take the quality of the products, the respect of the customer expectations, and the economical aspect into account.

    I also assess the technical and sales value of the materials that will be used for the financial equalization. It will be the basis for the fair remuneration of our adherents.

    Flax is out of time, it is the oldest textile in the world. It is natural and elegant. It is also a modern fiber with its new markets in knitting and in the composites sector.

    With this fiber, you start from scratch every year. Today it is my 25th crop and none of them has been the same since the first one.

  • "When the piece of advice I give helps the adherent to improve and when I get some feedback on it, it is a real award for me."

    I am in charge of the follow up of the adherents. My main goal is to bring technical advice. rom the sowing to the harvesting works and the follow up of the scutching so as to help the adherents to improve in the culture of flax, so that they get the best income out of it.

    The relationship agent has a particular role because he really makes the link between the culture and the use of fibers by the cooperative customers. I often explain the quality of his fibers to an adherent using the the scutched flax handfu.
    The most enthusiasts follow their fiber from the beginning to the end ; a real flax grower will check the quality of his fiber until the end of the process.

    You can feel the passion. My parents used to grow flax. I had the opportunity to integrate the cooperative when I was young and to discover the fiber earlier than them, with the people and the values of TERRE DE LIN.

  • "What I like is the land values, they have to be perpetuated"

    I am in charge of the administrative follow up of the farmers over the culture process. I coordinate all the initiatives to work through the different agricultural representations.

    I regularly work in contact with our adherents, I like this contact very much.

    I did not know flax before starting to work at the cooperative. It is an unusual culture, being flax grower cannot be improvised. I got to know flax culture ; it is a culture of passionate people.

    I am very much attached to land values. We need to respect the nature, we have to protect it. It is a great challenge !

  • " Working with flax means to be passionate and to be able to challenge oneself."

    I manage the general organization of the plant : seed production, scutching mill and hackling.

    I started when I was 16 as an operator on the scutching line. Then, I successively occupied all production related posts, from inventory management to team leader.

    What I like most in my job is the diversity of the tasks, the knowledge of the different businesses and being in the field.

    I also have a transmission role towards the operators, I know their business. Therefore, I can create a climate of trust between us.

    Flax is never the same. Every crop, we need to challenge ourselves. To some extent, the fiber itself decides how we have to work. Flax is living, you need to feel and to touch it.

  • "What I like is finding solutions."

    I manage a team of eight people in the hackling activity : supervising the machines set up maintenance, and quality control .

  • I started as an operator on the scutching line and I rapidly moved to the hackling department.

    Although I have been working for 26 years here, I always discover new aspects of flax. I am often surprised of the resulting fiber after hackling. The material reveals itself and gives more than what you initially expected from it.

    There are also very good exchanges between all the teams. I think that the cooperative values contribute to this.
